Our name Invicta is a nod to the wonderfully powerful Victorian Poem ‘Invictus’ by William Ernest Henley. It is a rousing poem about strength in adversity and facing life with your head held high, no matter what it throws at you. In a speech to the House of Commons on 9 September 1941, Winston Churchill paraphrased the last two lines of the poem, stating “We are still masters of our fate. We still are captains of our souls.” Famously the poem was a favourite of Nelson Mandela while incarcerated, and it has been documented as being shared among many American prisoners of war to keep up morale during the Vietnam War.
It’s only a short poem but it sure packs a punch and can be inspirational on so many levels. To us it reflects finding the inner strength to succeed and being in control of your own destiny; digging deep to improve yourself and having the courage to make changes, however difficult.
